Fuji kicks butt - Ralphbro - 06-Mar-2016 00:04

56mm, X-T1 set to eye detect. Elinchrom 27" square SB. The Fuji skin tones are the best.

Our oldest cat Lily. She's 11 and weighs 7 pounds. When we got her she was 10 weeks old and could hide under our small freezer. We had two 11 year old male cats at the time, they weighed in at about 14 or 15 pounds each. They got along great. One of them taught her how to open up a cabinet door so they could sleep in it.Icon_lol

RE: Fuji kicks butt - Tetrode - 06-Mar-2016 01:10

And Scoot thinks you don't shoot live models!

RE: Fuji kicks butt - juice - 06-Mar-2016 01:31

Stupid Scoot.

I'm pretty confident in the eye detect since the last couple of FW updates, it's impressive.

What aperture was it shot at? (You need a fancy LR export preset like mine to output that stuff automatically Icon_smile

RE: Fuji kicks butt - Ralphbro - 06-Mar-2016 11:52

F6.3
I gotta figure out an easier way of exporting, along with embedding.

I'm on anticoagulation medication, so handling the cats can be like Russian Roulette sometimes.Icon_eek....Icon_biggrin

If you're using LR and you want a hand, let me know.

RE: Fuji kicks butt - Ralphbro - 06-Mar-2016 20:39

So I can upload images to my flicker account through LR and then embed them without the cut and paste?

RE: Fuji kicks butt - juice - 06-Mar-2016 20:49

Yep, LR has a native FB exporter. (I haven't used it, I used Jeffrey Friedl's Flickr plugin - http://regex.info/blog/lightroom-goodies/flickr - back when I exported to Flickr (which has gone the way of all good Yahoo sites...))

Just set it up, and if it doesn't do enough, try the above plugin.

RE: Fuji kicks butt - Ralphbro - 06-Mar-2016 21:27

Thank you!

RE: Fuji kicks butt - FJ Love - 06-Mar-2016 22:05

looks good Ralph, are the meds new ?

RE: Fuji kicks butt - Ralphbro - 06-Mar-2016 22:12

Thanks Martin

The meds will be 10 years this June. Mechanical aortic valve installed. I sound like a Swiss watch when I'm in a quiet room.Icon_biggrin

RE: Fuji kicks butt - FJ Love - 11-Mar-2016 19:51

well I finally caved and bought the Fuji 50-140 2.8, so before i get slandered by Mic let me first say I had a specific purpose in buying the lens, I found the primes just didn't cut it for hockey no matter how hard i tried there was just no way other than a zoom to do it right, TB has a hockey tournament in Niagara Falls next week and I would really like to get some good shots of him before the season ends. I will post up some pics when i get back to let you know how it went. Icon_biggrin

RE: Fuji kicks butt - Sheldon N - 11-Mar-2016 20:52

Congrats Martin! Be sure to post some bokeh shots. Icon_smile

TOO LATE.

Did you try the 55-200? It's actually lot better looking lens, although not 2.8.

(11-Mar-2016 21:18)juice wrote:  Did you try the 55-200?

owned it, sold it, I really don't like variable aperture lenses and i needed the 2.8 to keep shutter speeds up

Nice to hear Martin. I hope it works out for you.

RE: Fuji kicks butt - FJ Love - 12-Mar-2016 20:58

pretty happy with this lens, does what i need it to, shot in jpeg and cropped a bit, gotta work on my skills a bit but the lens performs as good as my Canon 70-200 ever did Icon_biggrin

Yep, they do suck. The rest look fine, though.

How did the AF do? What was the keeper percentage (roughly)? Which AF mode did you use, and is it the latest FW?

RE: Fuji kicks butt - Ralphbro - 12-Mar-2016 21:29

In the last one the background looks like heat shimmer effect.

Funny how often that lens looks like that, even in an ice hockey rink...

RE: Fuji kicks butt - Ralphbro - 12-Mar-2016 22:44

Now, now Mic. Martin is just going to have to work hard at finding backgrounds that are immune to the 50-140 bokahIcon_sad

Well, it's for ice-hockey, so he should be just fine for that. As long as he doesn't take shots of people in the crowd Icon_smile

RE: Fuji kicks butt - Case - 13-Mar-2016 01:16

I'm going to reserve judgement for when Martin gets more practice in, because online its very hard to judge the quality of a lens when people only generally post their best shots.

But ultimately, if youre happy with the shots, cost, weight, and handling thats all that matters.

Its all about the memories.

Don't let the bokeh loonies rain on your parade, Martin. Looks like your new lens is perfect for your needs.

latest firmware, zone focus 9 point, i think only 2 or 3 were out of focus and those shots were close to the boards and not really subject only , quite happy with the AF actually, the blackout between shoots still pisses me off though

(13-Mar-2016 01:16)Case wrote:  because online its very hard to judge the quality of a lens when people only generally post their best shots.

Case you are correct, those were a few of the better shots not because of focus but because of subject, all the shots turned out great but because they are action shots it's hard to predict if they will turn out to be pleasing, not trying to sell anybody on the lens just letting you guys know it works like a canon 70-200 2.8 based on my experience with both, obviously skill is paramount here Icon_lol

Good news allround, really. And yes, that blackout really really sucks. #stupidmirrorgettingintheway

RE: Fuji kicks butt - FJ Love - 17-Mar-2016 16:12

back from the Niagara Falls hockey tournament, 98% keeper rate but threw out more than half the pics due to poor composition, TB's team did well for 9 year olds playing 10 year olds, they won 3 of 4 and TB shut out one team, the 10 year old Barrie team won it all , I guess it gives us hope for next years tournament

RE: Fuji kicks butt - juice - 17-Mar-2016 17:50

Good keeper rate, that.

Sheldon (now you're back), it's GP Friday, and it's been raining solidly for hours Icon_smile

OK, it's 6am, but they're predicting rain all day Icon_smile

quote:Cloudy. Very high (near 100%) chance of rain with possible heavy falls, easing to showers by the afternoon. The chance of a thunderstorm this morning.

No, not shooting the X-T1 at the GP Icon_smile

Quiet you!!!!!

No spoilers for the next 8 months.

MotoGP kicks off this weekend too. I'm excited. Icon_smile

RE: Fuji kicks butt - Tetrode - 17-Mar-2016 19:10

Speaking of Fuji (I think we were at one point), did you see this major screw-up by Nikon's marketing department:

RE: Fuji kicks butt - juice - 17-Mar-2016 19:12

Yeah, that was LOL. I mean, it's not like Nikon ever made a decent film camera, right?

RE: Fuji kicks butt - FJ Love - 17-Mar-2016 20:14

I'm sure that guy doesn't work for Nikon anymore Icon_lol

RE: Fuji kicks butt - Ralphbro - 17-Mar-2016 21:16

Martin, it's great to hear your camera/lens combo worked out for you.
You gotta be happy with the shut out by TB.

Idiocy at Nikon.

You gotta be happy with the shut out by TB.

when I switched to Fuji I gave up shooting a telephoto and found I had no interest in learning the camera, being able to shoot hockey with a tele has peeked my interest again and I can see using it more often, If that makes any sense.

Ralph I was very happy with TB's shutout, as a goalie you're either the hero or the blame, TB is pretty good and I've never heard any negative comments but the parents were quick to shit on the other goalie when we lost the tournament so I was quick to stand up for him and set them straight, we win as a team and lose as a team, those goals went in because they got around all of your kids first, don't blame the goalie !
