How much does a pound of bananas cost in the wilds of Alaska? They're surely not grown locally.

So... I started flying in acro mode on Monday (no self-levelling, no GPS, no return-to-home, no panic button. Nothing! Acro stands for acrobatic. The drone goes when you point it, and what happens after that is up to you). And we've had rain for a could of days since then, so I've had four days to practice. And I've been practicing! Nothing super-spectacular just yet, but I'm pretty happy with it. And it's only 55 seconds long, made especially for those with short attention spans. I call this The Pine Project. Icon_mrgreen

When I flew that? Not at all, that was earlier today. And that was fairly relaxed pace, I was fully in control and relaxed all the way. The hardest thing was the first-ever roll and flip, on Tuesday - because you don't know what to expect - you just gotta bite the bullet and try it. That's why you always try out new manoeuvres at least 3 mistakes high - to give you a chance to save the situation before you hit the ground. By definition, you can make not one but TWO mistakes, and still recover safely. Icon_smile

What really surprised me, last Monday, when I first flipped the dummy switch off, was just how natural and familiar acro mode felt. I have a private pilot's licence, from way back (not a current medical though), but haven't flown for many years, for several reasons (family, time, money, divorce, etc, etc), and acro mode immediately felt familiar to me. BUT... I never flew acrobatics when I flew airplanes, so inverted flight was unfamiliar to me. Something that people do by accident, not design. Icon_wink But I just had to try it on the very next day (Tuesday), and I haven't stopped since! This is SO much fun! Icon_cool

Oh, I did some backflips and forward-flips during that battery too, as well as a Split S, but it was the pines that I really wanted to dive. I didn't want to do anything too extreme, because the walking track is just to the other side of those pines, and I wanted to remain in control at all times. It is the weekend, and Kiama is full of tourists, and I didn't want to hit one of them. Not with my drone, anyway. Icon_smile

There is no *real equivalent (because as long as the propellers turn, you have some amount of control at all times, the drone is not really stalled), but you just gave me an interesting idea! I'm off to fake a stall turn after lunch. Icon_cheesygrin

There is no *real equivalent (because as long as the propellers turn, you have some amount of control at all times, the drone is not really stalled), but you just gave me an interesting idea! I'm off to fake a stall turn after lunch. Icon_cheesygrin

P.S. When I get better and can do perfect power loops repeatedly, I'm doing an Immelmann. Video will be sure to follow. Icon_lol

Nah. Just a common and spectacular aerobatic maneuver. And, yes, it was developed by a Czech.

I demand a second opinion! According to that STUPID test I'm 50% hipster.

At this point the drone is far more capable than the pilot. Icon_lol

Here are some things I got up to yesterday afternoon. My favourite part is toward the end. I put some 3-bladed props on, and they made the drone feel much more locked-in, as if on rails. Any sloppiness in the video is due to the operator, not the drone.
