RE: Dog Image Thread #1

The traps are usually about 6 feet long and there is a trip pad near the back of the trap where the food is placed (hang a hot dog on a string close to the top and as far back as possible). They are designed this way so the animal will be completely clear of the door when it slams shut after the foot pad triggers it. High value foods are used, hot dogs, cat food, fish sandwich, cheeseburgers, etc.

Step one is repeated sightings in the same area, preferably the dog's bed down area. You then put food out where the trap will eventually be placed, several days in a row. The aree is monitored from afar by various volunteers to make sure the dog is still using the area as home base, and hopefully, eating the food that has been set out (regular dog food, for this step). The trap is then placed in the area, and re-baited, as necessary, again by several volunteers, usually a little before the most likely times for a sighting. In this case it was only the second day with the trap in this location. Friday morning, there was a cat in the trap. It was re-baited and she was caught 8:30 Friday night. My turn for re-baiting had not even come up yet. We were very confident in the trap location, but not so confident that Lizzy would go in the trap. There were about 20 people helping with this through the process.

Here is a picture of trapped Lizzy

How does a bearded collie spend the better part of a cold, snowy, miserable day? Snoozing, of course:

Except a cat would be dreaming about solving Rubik's cube. Millie, on the other hand, dreams about a nice, juicy stick.

It's pretty nice, but it's getting warm up here. About to go out in it and shoot once the model arrives.

Send the kids? I can't get rid of them!

My wife homeschools them. She taught public school for several years and still has her certification.

I've become very adept at perpetuating that myth, JB. Way back when, somebody changed the verbiage beneath my POTN avatar to read "I am a walking repository of thoroughly useless information". I don't know who did that or what prompted it but it certainly proves my point. The myth lives on.
