I just spent $7k on appliances, that is why I asked. I would think the cabinets and appliances would eat up the $25k, and then you still have granite, tile backsplash, sinks/faucets, flooring and lighting.

I'm going through an "update" myself, but the kitchen only gets $12k: appliances, granite, tile backsplash, sink and faucet. Every other penny I have will go to stucco tear off, siding and window replacement Icon_evil

Stucco? Ouch... that stuff is no good for waterproofing.

We see lots of construction defect claims here in the NW. Continuous (and sometimes sideways) rain is a good way to find out if your contractors did their flashing and trim correctly. Icon_smile

I hate tile splashbacks. Glass is way better. (I've got stainless here, which is also excellent.)

Glass tile is what I meant, like in the picture Martin posted. I'm not sure if I'll go that route though.

There is no substrate remaining under any of my windows on the front of the house. I'll be sure to take some pictures to show you guys the carnage when they tear off the stucco.

I've not seen a glass backsplash, but I'll look into it. Most of what is going in around here looks like the glass tile in the picture Martin posted. They are using a more flexible grout for backsplashes, but you would still need to seal it.

I've thought about putting stainless behind the range, and tile elsewhere.

The complete kitchen redo in my house was ferociously expensive as I recall. Cabinets were, maybe, $17K. Granite was another $7k. DCS double oven, $3,600. Wolf cooktop, $3k. Miele dishwasher, Franke double sink & Tri-Flow faucet, bamboo flooring, etc., etc. And let's not forget the $95/hour plumber and electrician.

I demand a second opinion! According to that STUPID test I'm 50% hipster.

Yeah, that's why you see it so much in LA. It rains 3 days a year there so one year in Portland = a century in LA.

sounds awesome Dave, i'm hoping to cut quite a few corners in my reno, i can do the plumbing and rough in the electrical, i can frame and drywall and demolish, so that saves a few bucks
i have an electrician friend who will finish up things and a friend of mine works for a kitchen cabinet company and another friend is a tiler, getting them all organized will be the challenge, so i've already started being nice Icon_cheesygrin

Aside from the cost of building and installing that slide, the engineering just to build that slide is impressive, stainless is not easy to work with, never mind all those bends that had to be built
