30 million songs and, I suspect, none of which I would listen to without having a gun to my head.

Just out of curiosity, does one need an Xbox to take advantage of the Xbox music pass?

You mean the sounds of a song with both violin and harpsichord? Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
I like a lot of genres of music, especially Russian and eastern European symphony music from the late 19th and early 20th century. 17th and 18th century chamber music is like finger nails on a black board. Lurch was the only one that could play the harpsichord. Icon_cheesygrin

I'll bet Sheldon listens to Lil' Kim whilst working outIcon_lol

Mankins are lumps of cold, dead plastic. But that doesn't mean they don't turn me on.

Hmmmm. Amazing that we're friends, Ralph. I find Russian and Eastern European symphonic music from the late 19th and early 20th century absolutely intolerable. I'd almost rather listen to Mic's preferred "hair metal". Almost. On the other hand. I absolutely adore 17th and 18th century chamber music.

Incidentally, I do have a rather low tolerance for harpsichord. Did you know William F. Buckley was a harpsichordist? Harpsichord was his favorite instrument.

TBH, Dave, I wasn't really thinking you'd be all over this when I posted it Icon_smile

But it is an excellent deal.

Nope, although I've got a 360, and an XBONE is on the cards for later this year. Maybe. Might be a bit busy at uni. Really, you just need a modern phone, a browser on your PC, etc.

Unfortunately I have not control over what they play at the gym. It's quite often VERY loud, and bounces between classic rock, more current rap/dubstep, and everything in between.

I will tell you that 3 days ago we did running agility drills using one of those fabric ladders that you lay on the ground, and our coach thought it would be fun to play Irish folk music.

Yes, many a jig was danced. Icon_mrgreen

I doubt you'll get any takers, Ralph. I think you'd have better luck if you asked everyone to name one of their favorite pieces of music. Absolute favorites change depending upon one's mood, no?

If I were to pick a desert island piece it would be Schubert's Symphony No. 9, the "Great C Maj." symphony. I suspect that won't appear on anyone else's list.

I like listening to new stuff, hard to say that something is my favorite of all time. There are albums I listen to a lot over a season of time, but invariably I move on to something else.

This probably won't surprise you but I actually own this LP:

John Williams (Australian classical guitar virtuoso, not Star Wars guy) arranged several of the dances from "Terpsichore" by the 17th century composer Michael Praetorius for guitar. They're not danceable by today's standards but you might (or might not) appreciate them:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=thvM2zeo1Bg

BTW, John Williams once gave a recital at Mic's house:
